Memory I

Memory: Positive - A Duel With A Dragon
Regained: Starting Memory
Summary: A dragon challenges a paladin.

Cold, clammy, and dark, that was definitely what your immediate surroundings felt and looked like.
The light flickered a bit - a lantern being held by the smallest member of the team - an older gentleman with a grizzled beard, leading the way. You squint your way through the darkness. You can hardly see fifteen feet in front of you.

"Is that an opening?" You ask, breaking the silence. The shorter figure looks up at you, his features rough and scrunched together, as if hewn from stone. The telltale sign of a dwarf.

"Nay, friend. I can see further yet, and it's an opening of some sort - a large chamber."

"Gods, lets just find Akrid and get out of here." A voice says behind you, you crane your head over your shoulder, a young woman in robes, with fair complexion and rounded ears that ended in pointed tips, who looked somewhere between immensely irritated and somewhat terrified, hunched over as if the cavern walls would close in on her. Behind her, a bald man in simple robes, who seemed to be cleaning flecks of... was that bone? Off his knuckles.

"Agreed." He said, without looking up.

"I can't believe he went and got himself kidnapped." You mutter to yourself. Whoever this guy was, he was frustrating you immensely.

"Shhh! Quiet now, everyone, no telling what's waiting for us in that chamber."

The deafening silence fell upon the group once more, as the flickering lantern-light started to spread out into the chamber itself, lighting the room. The first thing of note was the body of water right across from them.

The second was the dragon.

Slightly bigger than even he was at full height - but not nearly as massive as one is fully grown, it's yellow scales shimmering in the lantern light as an amused expression played across its face.

"Hehehe! You're finally here!" The voice was high-pitched and feminine, but there was a rumbling chuckle behind the laughter.

The group - you, the dwarven man, the elf, and the bald knuckle-examiner, backed against the opposite wall, fixing all eyes on the dragon. Though you took a hesitating step forward, eyes locked and blood surging beneath you.

"Where's Akrid!?"

"Oooh, a feisty one!" She laughed again. "Do you mean the rogue I caught trying to sneak into my room to steal my hoard? He's been a fun plaything!" Your expression blanched. She took note and showed a row of teeth. "Oh, don't worry, he's fine! I wouldn't want to break any toys!"

Behind you, the wizard was running through what she knew, muttering under her breath so only you and the others could hear. "Dragon, no older than a child, chromatic, not nice."

Indeed, you could sense something coming from the dragon that could only be described as 'sinister', it crept out from her, making you shudder, and yet at the same time it set a fire raging in your heart. Your voice rose up again. "Let him go, foul beast!"

"Awww, but I wanted to play with him some more...! And I'm not foul! Why would you say that to me!?" Now she was pouting, her snout and maw pointed towards the ground as she locked eyes with the group. "Unless..."

You followed her eyes to around your neck, before they lit up and practically roared with glee!

"Oh, oh! You're a Paladin, aren't you!?"

You instinctively grasped for the token around your neck - a silver fist clutching a thunderbolt. "I... I am, yes! And I shall free my comrade from you, no matter the cost!"

"Oooh, ooh! That's so wonderful!" Her hind legs danced back and forth. What.

"What." You say, your mind blank.

"All the stories I've read say that the real dragons face off against Paladins! It's always a Paladin, too! A dragon faces a Paladin who swears to defeat her! So I gotta face one too!" She paces around, gleefully, never taking her eyes off you. Part of you is very worried, but part of you is starting to get into this.

"Uhh..." You hesitate still, even if you like the idea of facing a dragon.

"Lad, she'll eat you alive! Yer tough, but yer not 'tackle a dragon solo' tough!" The dwarf hissed into your ear.

"We could try to attack her while she's distracted." The bald man spoke up, eyeing the dragon as if he, too, wanted a piece of the action.

And a part of your roared up at that, you heart started to pound, your muscles practically itched.

"...I think I should fight her."

They all gave you a look that said everything.

"Idiot." The woman spoke what was clearly on everyone else's mind, but looked up from a book she had taken out. "You'll die."

"Not if you guys help me!" You looked particularly at the dwarf, his eyes narrowed and nodded.

"Aye. But I don't have many spells left for this. I can guarantee you some strength, but should things turn foul..."

The bald man cracked his knuckles, nodding.

"Thanks, everyone." You turn, your blood really pumping now. "Dragon! Will you release our friend if I win the duel!?"

"Oho! A wager! Okay, but if I win, I get to keep you as my plaything too~!"

You gulped.

"O...Okay! Well, I swear on my blade I'm going to defeat you, dragon!" You drew your weapon - a sharpened sword and a heavy metal shield.

"Good luck, lad. " The dwarf muttered to you as he placed a hand on you, a surging fire of strength coursing through your body.

"Yellow dragon, beware of acid breath." The woman muttered to you. You nodded.

"Yay! But please..."

She flashed her teeth, and crouched low to the ground.

"Call me Silark."

What it does:

+I was in caves at some point.
+There are both Good and Evil Dragons
+I'm a Paladin. I have no clue what a Paladin is, except that it involves the thing that was around my neck.
+I had a group of people. Four others. Dwarf, lady, bald guy, kidnapped guy (Akrid?)
+I totally agreed to fight a Dragon named Silark.
